Summer is here which means the celebrating begins! However all of the food and wine can sometimes leave you deflated rather than energised. We’ve got you covered with some simple detox tips and recipes to keep you feeling and looking your best.
The aim of a detox is to remove toxins from your body such as caffeine, food additives, alcohol and air-pollution in order to boost your immune and digestive system, ultimately making you feel lighter, energised and focused. It’s important not to think of a detox as a ‘diet’ but to have fun with fresh and healthy foods, and try to cut down on foods that aren’t so good for you.
Antioxidants are the key to a detox and are in all of the best summer foods: berries, mangoes, citrus, leafy greens, watermelon and seafood, just to name a few.
Drink of Choice: Green Tea
Green tea is another antioxidant which lowers your risk of cancer and improves brain function. Three cups a day is recommended but even one cup a day helps.
If you’re craving carbs: Cinnamon Tea
A cup of cinnamon tea will help to ease cravings for carbs as it has been proven to regulate blood sugar.
Try an omelette filled with vegetables such as tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms and capsicum.
For a lighter option or to have as a snack, try an almond milk smoothie filled with yoghurt and all of your favourite fruits.
